Code of Conduct

Introduction

Noosa Commercial Marine Operators (NCMO) is a membership based collective of members operating in or around the Noosa River. These guidelines provide a public statement outlining the principles and commitment expected of our members.

Purpose

  • Provide a collective industry voice and representation with all levels of government

  • Promote appropriate ethical standards and guidelines for our members and industry that benefit and protect our members, our community and our visitors

  • Contribute to the enhancement & preservation of environmental, social, economic and safety standards within the Noosa River System

  • Strive to ensure there is an effective and appropriate response to emerging trends and issues

  • Encourage professional, ethical and responsible behaviour by members to build a strong and positive industry collective.

Principles & Best Practice:

  • Good Business Practice

  • All members will strive to operate their businesses in accordance with all laws, regulations and guidelines particularly Workplace Health & Safety

  • All members will demonstrate strong ethical standards

 

Safety & Maritime Practice:

  • Ensure all vessels and operations are compliant with AMSA regulations

  • Ensure staff and operations are respectful, legal and responsible operations

  • Strive to protect and inspire visitors

 

Environmental Management:

  • Comply with marine regulations in relation to waste disposal and pollution

  • Strive for sustainable and responsible environmental practices

  • Only discharge sewerage and liquid waste using on-shore pump out stations or in accordance with offshore regulations

  • Minimise and ensure the responsible disposal of waste and rubbish including old fishing gear

 

Standard of Conduct & Legislative Compliance

As commercial marine tourism operators, we will strive to comply with the requirements of and work to support the goals of our fellow operators and key Government, environmental and tourism agencies including:

  • Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)

  • Marine Safety Queensland (MSQ)

  • Department of Natural Resources

  • Queensland Government

  • Noosa Council

  • Noosa Integrated Catchment Authority

  • Noosa Landcare

  • Noosa Chamber of Commerce

  • Tourism Noosa

  • Noosa Volunteer Coastguard

 

Implementation & Administration of the Code

  • Our members make a voluntary commitment to abide by the Code and to work individually and collectively support its principles.

  • Members agree to report any misconduct or unsafe practice by another operator to the relevant Authority or the NCMO to collectively protect individuals and our industry

  • An alleged breach of the Code may result in the NCMO requesting the member respond to allegations made, either in writing or in person. If a member is found to have acted in breach of or contrary to the principles of the Code, remedial action may be taken including warnings and expulsion from the association.

  • All members will strive to ensure their staff are aware of, comply with and act in accordance with the Code

 

Member Criteria

  • Must operate a commercial marine business on or around the Noosa River

  • Must own commercially registered vessels and/or operate a commercial jetty and carry appropriate insurances to protect the safety of staff and the owners and operators of other recreational and commercial vessels

  • Must pay an annual membership fee
